What happened to good old Slapstick?

I guess that in today's day in age, we can consider Jackass as
slapstick, but the films have no meaning anymore, they are spoofs and
in my opinion plain garbage for movies, ...

What ever happened to movies like this ?? Leslie Nielsen and the
Naked Gun series maybe the closest to Chaplin from way early days, and
The Great Race , with tony curtis and lemon, as posted in the clip.

Does anyone else see a decline in these types of movies ?? or is it
just me, and I need to get with the times and look forward to even
more pointless, plotless slapstick like jackass.
